The struggle by the local populations against the German occupation continued unabated. This resistance was more often than not organised without assistance from the Allies. At times though it seems there were individuals who were were directed and supported. These partisans often worked with Allied operatives.
The hardships faced by the troops and the deprivations suffered by the local populations have so often been recorded. However, these may sometimes be glossed over.
